Library Exploration: February 21, 2017
Finding sources was obviously an extremely integral part to the construction of my Reader’s Guide. When focusing on topics dealing with medicine, a lot of the sources were long, complex, and seemed out of my reach in terms of understanding. After visiting the library, I learned how to tailor source searches to my specific needs. I was able to filter with keywords, dates, authors, and genres. I was aware of these tools previously, but I did not know to what extent I could personalize my searches. I also held the misconception that using a library database would yield solely peer-reviewed articles. The librarian who assisted me showed me how to find videos, interview transcripts, and other interesting genres that steered away from systematic research. This library exploration made my research process wholesome and more creative.
